The Importance Of LGBTQ Parent Support San Rafael CA

By Timothy Johnson

It is incredibly difficult for an adolescent or teen to come to terms with their sexuality. Knowing what to say to their parents can bring about bouts of depression and anxiety. The average child just wants to please their parents. They don't want to disappoint them. During this time, when a teen decides to come out, LGBTQ parent support San Rafael CA is essential because they need to feel as if they are accepted.

Parents obviously find this is a shock, and this is only natural. Most of the time, they are thinking of their child and what they are going to be missing out on. They may be thinking of the negative aspects which the teen will go through as they progress through their adult years.

When parents are not fully supportive of this, they will often feel rejected and abandoned. It can have negative consequences on their lives later on when they are adults. Sometimes, they will tell one person in the family. It may be someone who they are close to, such as a sibling.

If the individual feels that they are going to be rejected, they simply won't say anything. This is sad because nobody would have known what they would have gone through. Of course, parents only want the best for their children. They want them to have a future where they are happy and content.

Psychological disorders can include depression, anxiety and panic attacks. The teen may start to think that there is something different about them, and the constant negative self talk which develop into further disorders. With the right amount of support from families, the individual has far greater chances of improving their mental health and negative thoughts.

This can include self harm. They will often have problems of a psychological nature. Thoughts of suicide can persist. This is very common amongst teens who are going through a time like this. It especially relates to those kids who are being bullied because of the nature of their sexual preference.

The way people react to the choices the individual makes will either help them during their lives or it will break them. Parents may not welcome this change because of various reasons. It can be because they are religious and they have strong morals. They may worry about their child and the disappointments which may follow over the years. There are also parents, who are unfortunately concerned about what others think about their situation.

For example, it is easy for a mom to see their son dress up in her clothes and simply think it is a phase. It is cute and one expects him to get over this. However, when he wants to go to preschool in a dress, then it is another story. This is gender identity and it can happen at a very young age. One needs to take this seriously because these are often the first signs.
