Get Relief With Acupuncture Palo Alto

By Pamela Brown

You may have heard of Traditional Chinese Medicine, but are not sure what it is. This is an ancient practice that includes the use of various herbs, tinctures, teas, infusions and even needles to help you feel better when you have an ailment. Western doctors typically do not practice any of these disciplines, but that does not stop their patients from seeking out an acupuncture Palo Alto caregiver to help them find relief.

This form of Traditional Chinese Medicine involves the use of needles. They are quickly inserted into the body so that there is as little pain as possible. Most patients say it feels like a quick sting with a little bit of pressure, but not painful. They are inserted strategically, and the placement depends upon what is ailing you.

When someone comes to an acupuncture practitioner, it is generally because they are seeking alternative forms of therapy when others fail. Perhaps they recently had a work accident or were a victim of a car crash and need quick relief. Or they could have weight or depression issues that can be helped with this form of treatment. Another common reason to schedule a session is a sports injury.

You can rest assured that all needles used are hygienic. They are either single use models that are thrown away as soon as the session is over, or highly sterilized ones that are still very safe for use by your highly trained practitioner.

There are little plastic tubes that some use to help guide the needle into your body easier, and ensure more accurate placement. This helps you get the most relief in the quickest way possible. But before any of that happens, they will determine where each needle will go, then use a swab of some sort to make sure that the skin is clean and help avoid any infections.

There is also something called electroacupuncture, which uses small electrical pulses to further stimulate the needle. The pulses go through the needle and into your body to help make the treatment even more effective.

You can only achieve any kind of success from this if you are not afraid of needles. If you are even the least bit squeamish, then this practice just will not help you. However, you can try a different approach using a device that applies electric pulse to pressure points, or the worker can also use their bare hands to relieve pressure points by squeezing.

Though you can get an acupuncture session on its own, most doctors will use it in conjunction with other forms of care. For example, they may give you weekly sessions with the needles, but also insist that you do some exercises or stretches on a regular schedule to help maintain the work you have done. They may also ask that you make dietary or lifestyle changes to help further relieve what is ailing you.

Do not make an appointment for a session without first doing your due diligence. You want to make sure the person is licensed and experienced. This is to keep both of you safe from any potential harm.
